Our deputies are paid an average of 33% less than our surrounding cities. Our deputies pay into social security when city employees do not. Our deputies have half the match paid into retirement accounts then sister cities . Without the Budget, we can not compete for Officers.
There is a very long answer behind this question but it boils down to this, City of Tacoma was also short staffed at 1.1 officers per thousand residents. They decided to offer a 50,000.00 bonus to our deputies and a min of 33% raise to transfer to the city. We lost 12 deputies to Tacoma in the last two months and at least 5 more will be leaving soon. We were at .59 officers per thousand when this started. We are now closer to .45. There is no end in site unless our Sheriff Department can pay competitive wages.
Our Sheriff and deputies have been working around the clock, overtime and double time to staff the county. The reality is that some of our areas not longer have any deputies assigned to graveyard shift. Positions are being filled by other deputies, sometimes driving 70 miles to cover a shift. Our deputies are overworked and tired. Calls for service that are non Emergency are going unanswered. If we do not demand our County Executive allocate more of our tax dollars to our deputies, things will get worse.
This is not a political Page. It is a page intended to bring attention to other residents so the we may act and demand our tax dollars be spent on our safety and law enforcement. My name is Annie, I put this page together myself. After a call for service to our sherfff department that they could not dispatch , I started digging into what is happening. I have 7 grandkids who live in this area and I became concerned for their safety. I was shocked at what I found out and very concerned for our future.. I decided to let others know and I am using my own money to fund this effort. I am not concerned with the letter behind our Executives or Council peoples names Our safety should not be a political issue.
I have met with our county Executives office, Three of our Pierce County Council members, Our Sheriff, The Leader of the Guild and spoken to many deputies.
The problem is allocation of funds and the solution is hearing from the people.
This is not a "we do not have enough money issue" this is an allocation issue. They are putting public safety low on the priority list.

Let them know "worst in the nation" is not good enough for us and should not be to them. We HAVE the money. We are in the top 6% of tax payers in the Nation. They are funding other pet projects and taking it from our law enforcement.

Inform residents of what is happening in our county. Drive change to support our Deputies. Keep our county safe and our crime rate dawn using our existing tax dollars. Generate Phone calls to our Executive asking him to fix this
